Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Of all the Russian NPPs, it has the most Southern location. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir, 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk City. At present two power units are operating at the plant. Power unit No.1 which was put into commercial operation in 2001 has the operated VVER-1000-type pressurized water reactor with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Commissioning of power unit No 2 was performed on December 10, 2010. Total Rostov NPP production since its start-up is equal to almost 80 B kWh. 

Power units Nos. 3 and 4 are being constructed at Rostov NPP site.


Rostov NPP is one of the largest electric power enterprises in the South of Russia. The plant provides 40% of Rostov region power production. From Rostov NPP electric power is supplied to Volgograd and Rostov regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories by five EPLs-500 (electric power lines), to Volgodonsk city by two EPLs-220.

In 2004, Rostov nuclear plant was recognized to be “The Best Russian NPP”. In 2006 and 2007 it became the winner of the pan-Russian competition “1000 best Russian enterprises and organizations”, was awarded with the 1st degree diploma at the pan-Russian competition “Russian Organization of a High Social Efficiency”, for high work quality and contribution to the region economic development. According to the results of 2007, Rostov NPP is recognized by Russian Federation Government to be the best enterprise of the Russian Federation fuel and power industry.

In December, 2010, Rostov NPP was for the third time the winner of the branch competition in the field of safety culture.

Alexander V. Palamarchuk, Rostov nuclear plant Director, was awarded with medals of the 1st and 2nd degrees Order for Fatherland Merit, for his labor success and many years of honest work.
