Alexander Vasiliev appointed new director of Smolensk NPP

In connection with the appointment of Andrei Petrov the new Director General of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom", who served as Director of the Smolensk nuclear power plant, Aleksandr Vasilyev became Acting Director of the nuclear power plant - the Chief Engineer of the Smolensk NPP on September 7, 2015.

Alexander Vassiliev was born on April 4, 1957 in Donetsk, Ukraine. In 1980 he graduated from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, speciality "Nuclear Power Plants". He has been working at the Smolensk NPP since 1980. From 1988 to 1998 he worked in the Ministry of Atomic Energy of the USSR, the central office of "Rosenergoatom".

From 1998 to 2010 he worked as the First Deputy Chief Engineer of the Smolensk NPP, from 2010 to 2015 - the Chief Engineer of the plant.

Alexander Vasiliev was awarded the insignia "For Merits for the nuclear industry" II-nd degree, has the title "Honored Power Engineer of the Russian Federation", was awarded the gold and silver medals "For Merits in enhancing safety of nuclear power plants" and other industry awards.

The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The SNPP annually issues on the average about 20 billion kilowatts hours of the electric power into country power supply system, that constitutes about 13% of the energy, developed in «Rosenergoatom Concern», and more than 80% of the Smolensk region energy, developed by the power entities.
