Smolensk NPP carries out active social-cultural and charitable work. One of its key activities is the restoration of the historical and cultural monuments of Smolensk region.

In 1998 the director of Smolensk NPP S.Krylov started the restoration of sources situated in the 30-km zone. Over a dozen sources have already been restored. Many of them are worshipped by local residents. The best known one is the source of Our Lady of Kazan.

The plant

  • has helped the local authorities to restore the museum of the great Russian composer Mikhail Glinka and the family church of the Glinkas;
  • erected monuments to sculptor S.Konenkov and poet N.Rylenkov;
  • built memorial complex in the place of former Serevrianka, village burnt down by Fascists;
  • built the Field of Memory, a cemetery of the soldiers whose remains have been found by search groups in Smolensk region.

In 2000 Smolensk NPP launched a benevolent campaign to build monuments in the places of abandoned villages.

Smolensk NPP actively supports the local cultural workers. Particularly, it has helped N.Deverilina, T.Korolyova, former employee of the plant V.Ryazansky and T.Khatina to publish their book.

Smolensk NPP regularly supplies the local schools with food and vehicles and organizes different festivities in Roslavl, Denogorsk and Smolensk.

The plant supports its former workers, war veterans, Yekimovichesky boarding school, Krabanovsky orphanage, different public organizations and funds.

Due to the plant’s support, the local authorities have built a wooden cathedral of Stefan Velikopermsy in Desnogorsk, cathedral of Ilia the Prophet and chapel in the village of Temkino. Now the plant is building a cathedral in honor of the Icon of Our Lady.

The whole staff of the plant is actively engaged in its charitable projects. To do good is not an end in itself for them, they just need to do good to other people.
