Smolensk NPP international activity is realized in two directions: international scientific and technical collaboration and international programs of technical assistance in the field of nuclear safety. International scientific and technical collaboration is realized through two official partners: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Association of Organizations Operating Nuclear Plants, (WAO NPP).

Two partner checks were organized at Smolensk NPP, where the representatives of Russian and foreign NPPs were taking part. The plant specialists also take an active participation in the programs of other nuclear plants partner checks.

In 2005, at SNPP two missions of technical support were organized on the topics:  “Water and Chemistry NPP Regime”, and “The Personnel Trainings” that contributed much to the improvement of the enterprise efficiency. International programs of technical assistance in the field of nuclear safety are realized on the basis of inter governmental Agreements and are aimed to the operating power units nuclear and radiation safety improvement. They include the equipment and technologies supply, experience and knowledge receipt from the partners by means of projects cycles and assistance programs realization. Since 1992, SNPP has been carried out the work on implementation of the projects developed as a part of TACIS European Community program.

Smolensk NPP permanent equipment modernization, high production culture, the use of international experience in all the operating spheres allowed it to reach high safety indexes.
