The Novovoronezhskaya NPP: 70% of the Voronezh region favor the development of nuclear energy

Most of the population of the Voronezh region according to a survey, conducted in late 2013 by an independent agency business research «Remarket», has a positive attitude towards nuclear energy.

So 70% of the region’s residents approves the use of the nuclear energy for the country’s electricity. In Novovoronezh - City of the NPP location - this assessment gave 86% of respondents. Actively develop and maintain electricity generation by nuclear power plants in the region is consider as necessary by 77% of respondents (in Novovoronezh - 94%).

Positive attitude towards Novovoronezhskaya NPP expressed 60% of the residents in the area and 87% in Zori. At the same time, respondents noted the high importance of the enterprise for socio-economic development of the region, a positive reputation, reliability and stability of the plant. 62% of regional residents and 75% believe the work at NovNPP to be prestigious.

Construction of new power units at the NovNPP, according to 61% of the region and 87% of Zori, will contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. This means that the public appreciates and supports the construction of new units.

Only 5% of respondents offer to abandon the use of the nuclear energy.

The survey was carried out on a representative sample covering all segments of the population of different age, education level and social status.

The Novovoronezhskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of station is head – a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, No. No. 3, 4 power units with VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second – in the 1969, third – in the 1971, fourth – the 1972, fifth – 1979.  There are three power units (power units (No No 1, 2 we're stopped in 1984 and 1990 years respectively) on work at the moment.
