Commission to verify the readiness of the Novovoronezh NPP to the fire-dangerous period considered the implementation of measures during the passage of natural hazards in the spring and summer.

As the head of the Fire safety Department Eugene Looshin noticed, forest fire teams were staffed, unannounced fire drills were conducted in units of nuclear power plants and contracting organizations for personnel, production and technical and administrative documentation was updated, the completeness of fire extinguishers, hydrants and related water infrastructure were checked during the implementation of planned activities.

Members of the commission held an extraordinary inspection of buildings and structures fire-technical condition. They verified compliance with fire safety conditions not only in the industrial area of nuclear power plants under construction and units, also at the territory and buildings leased from the nuclear power plant by contractors. Systems and fire protection, fire fighting equipment, fire hydrants and reservoirs, state roads, repair of personal protective equipment personnel, which performance is also regularly checked, didn’t remain without attention.

As soon as the snow melts completely in the surrounding forests and plantations, a scheduled training for forest fire teams in conjunction with site-division from Russian Emergencies Ministry on fire adjacent to the Novovoronezh territory will take place. The program provides training assessment driveways for easy access to the fire machinery spare reservoirs and additional reservoirs, improvement of people's evacuation routes and safe driving techniques.

The object Forest fire team was set up for the purpose of fire prevention and suppression of forest fires at green area near the Novovoronezh NPP. Works on prevention of emergency situations during the passage of natural hazards at the plant are systemic and are held annually in accordance with the regulations and the approved plan of organizational and technical measures. Therefore, the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is considered as one of the most Flameproof facility in the region.

Average values of radiation background correspond to level of natural background values in the Central European Part of Russia in settlements of a 30-km zone round the Novovoronezhskaya nuclear power plant.

The Novovoronezhskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of the station can be a main one – a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, the No. 3, 4 power units with the VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second – in 1969, third – in 1971, fourth – 1972, fifth – 1979.

Construction of two innovative power units №6 and №7 with 1200 MW capacity has been done since 2007 at the Novovoronezh NPP.
