Novovoronezh NPP: “Ecocity” on a visit to atomists

On June 20, 2011 sixty children of “Ecocity” training and educational children’s recreational camp visited the museum of Novovoronezh NPP.

Deputy Director on training and educational work of the House of Children’s Creativity, “Ecocity” project coordinator Zhanna Khlebnikova noted: “It was very interesting for the children to learn about the principles of nuclear plant operation, how power is generated and in what way a NPP influences the environment”.

The children asked many questions, counted the nuclear plants on the map of Russia, specified the type of reactor plants and counted the level of radioactivity from different sources of natural and artificial origin in percent.

Attending the exposition of Novovoronezh NPP search party “Peresvet” the children were touching the prizes of war tremblingly.

Within the framework of the educational and practical program “Hello, Peaceful Atom” of the Nuclear Power Industry School, the young ecologists visited Novovoronezh NPP-2 under construction, where they learnt much interesting not only about the site, but also of other nuclear plants of Russia. As a result the contest of  “Peaceful Atom” pictures was held by the schoolchildren and their teachers on the same day. Children are planning to publish the pictures and photo pictures in the form of a booklet.

This year Novovoronezh House of Children’s Creativity has won the contest of socially significant projects of Rosatom State Corporation.
