Novovoronezh NPP: the atomists reverenced the veterans

On June 22, 2011 the “Candle” action, devoted to the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, was held at the initiative of the city Public Chamber and Novovoronezh NPP youth organization on the Day of Memory and Grief. At four o’clock in the morning the participants of the Great Patriotic War, enterprises and public organizations representatives and citizens gathered near “Star of Glory” memorial. The gathered people lit the candles from the eternal flame of “Star of Glory” memorial to honour the memory of those who died defending the Native country.

The memorial events in the atomists’ city were continued by a meeting of Novovoronezh citizens, lying of wreath and flowers to the memorial, devoted to the soldiers of rifle division No. 141 and the soldiers-townsmen, the demonstration of a feature film called “Brest Fortress” in the city cultural centre. The NPP employees, representatives of atomists’ youth organization took an active part in the event.

City Duma Deputy, Engineer on NV NPP 5th power unit turbine management Valentina Kudryavtseva noted: “The Day of Memory and Grief, “The Minute of Silence” and “Candle” actions, traditionally held on this day, are the proof of our deep appreciation and gratefulness to the generation of veterans, who gave away their lives for the sake of ours, for everything they done for us, our children and grandchildren”.

On the Day of Memory and Grief the veterans took part in the theme conversation “Memory Burns” held in the city library. Meetings with the veterans in children’s clubs domiciliary were organized as well.

Almost 800 participants of the Great Patriotic War had been living and working in Novovoronezh since its foundation day. The information concerning these facts was published in a number of books, mostly owing to the nuclear plant.
