Novovoronezh NPP: the March plan for electric power generation has been fulfilled by 128.16%

In March of 2011, Novovoronezh NPP power units generated 628.1 mln kWh of electric power. The electricity production plan approved by the Federal Tariff Service of Russia has been fulfilled by 128.16 %. 515.4 mln kWh of electric power were supplied to the energy system in March, being equal to 131.41% of the plan.

The utilization factor of maximum capacity has amounted to 46.10% (the target figure being 35.08%).

Totally, since the beginning of 2011Novovoronezh NPP has generated 1,799.9 mln kWh of electric power (126.4% of the plan). 1,633.9 mln kWh (130.92% of the plan) have been supplied to the energy system for the three months. The utilization factor of maximum capacity for the three months has amounted to 45.46% (the planned value being 35.95%).

In March, power units Nos. 3 and 4 of Novovoronezh NPP operated in the standard conditions. Power unit No. 5 was shut down in September of 2010 in order to carry out lifetime extension works.

There were no violations of limits and conditions of safe operation of the plant power units. The radiation background in the area of the nuclear power plant location and in the adjacent territory corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural background values.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don River, 42 km to the south of Voronezh. This is the first Russian NPP with VVER-type reactors (pressurized water reactors of the vessel type using light pressurized water). Each of the five plant reactors is the main one – a prototype of serial power-producing reactors: power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, power units Nos. 3, 4 with the VVER-440 reactors and power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was started up in 1964, the second – in 1969, the third - in 1971, the fourth – in 1972, the fifth – in 1979. At present three power units are in operation (power units Nos. 1, 2 were shut down in 1984 and in 1990 respectively).
