On June 5, 2012 in Voronezh there has passed an environmental festival “Ecograd”, dedicated to the World Day of the Environment, and summing up the All-Russian action “Days of Protection from Ecological Hazards”.

The substantial delegation of the nuclear city took active part in the festival: the specialists of Novovoronezh NPP, members of the city public environmental organization “Green Planet”, teachers and students of Novovoronezh Polytechnic College, a branch of NRNU MEPhI, and school children.

In the environmental city on the avenues of the park “Scarlet Sails”, there was formed a kind of craftsmen streets, where the participants of the festival could see the holiday theme exhibitions: “Ecohouse”, “Wildlife”, “Green Region”, exhibition of posters in graffiti technology “Save and Preserve”, photographs gallery “A Look at the Nature”, expositions “On Pages of the Red List”, and “Preserved Places of the Voronezh Territory”.

At the festival “Environmental Report of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant”, Novovoronezh citizens presented booklets about the plant, took active part in various quizzes and even managed to make a birdhouse, which will be delivered to the State Wildlife Preservation “Venevitinskiy Kordon”.

The interregional and regional public environmental organizations “Green Planet”, “EKA”, “Centre of Environmental Politics”, “Public Initiative”, the Youth innovative environmental project “Breeze” and industrial group “Promotion” taught master classes, carried out quizzes, and contests, ecological games. The participants of cognitive and learning activities in the form of a game were reminded about caring for water, necessity of preserving the pureness of the native land, suggested feasible opportunities to help the “Green Planet” to avoid becoming black from the debris.

Of great interest was the demonstration of environmentally friendly transport: electric bus, electric scooter, electric bicycles and robots.  
As part of the environmental festival, there was held a big colorful concert of creative teams and awarding of environmental unions for active participation in the environment protection.
 


Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime – a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit – VVER-365, No.3,4 power units – VVER-440, No.5 power unit – VVER-1000.  
Currently three power units are operated (Units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
