The first Atomiada of kindergartens passed in Novovoronezh on November 23, 2012, on the Mother’s Day. More than 100 children from 10 kindergartens participated in the sports festival dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern.

The idea of holding the Atomiada among the kindergarten pupils belongs to the trade union organization and social development department of NVO NPP. Funds for the organization of the event, which was held under the slogan “Only Forward and Only Together!”, were allocated by the local economic mainstay.

The colorfully decorated hall, “clockwork” masters of ceremonies - Baba Yaga and the good doctor, performances of adult athletes in intervals between the sports competitions, prizes and gifts to all the participants of competitions – the event, which was held in the sports and fitness complex of Novovoronezh, was organized at a highest level.

“Uranchik”, “Elektronchik”, “Iskorka”, “Element”, “Spartans”, “Ogonek” and “Solnyshko” – these are the teams’ names for the participation in the first atomic Spartakiad, invented by the children together with their kindergarteners.



Despite their young age, many children already know what a nuclear power plant is and what it is used for. In the beginning of the competition, the masters of ceremonies explained children about the operational principles of NPP in a simple and intelligible form.

The competition itself resembled the well-known from the childhood fun run and included several sports competitions for speed, rate of response and ability to interact in the team.

From the tiers, young athletes were given warm encouragement by their most loyal funs: mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers.

The Atomiada has become a real festival of sports, childhood and good mood. That day nobody lost. All 10 teams were recognized as winners, and each young contestant has got a gold medal and fluffy toy as a gift. Kindergarteners, who had prepared teams for the Atomiada, were awarded with honorable diplomas of NVO NPP and valuable prizes. In addition, the local economic mainstay awarded the management of kindergartens №№ 4-8 and 10-15 with certificates for the equipment to be delivered to gyms before the end of the year.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (vessel type pressurized water reactor with light water under pressure).

Each of the five plant reactors are prime – a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit – VVER-365, No.3,4 power units – VVER-440, No.5 power unit – VVER-1000.  
At present, three power units are under operation (units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
