The mission of WANO technical support has been held at Kursk NPP

The mission of WANO technical support on the topic called “Causes of Vacuum Reduce in Turbine Equipment and the Diagnostic Techniques” was working at Kursk NPP on May 24-26, 2011.

The mission was organized at the initiative of Kursk NPP in accordance with the work schedule of the World Association of Nuclear Plants’ Operators (WANO) of MC (Moscow Centre).

The experts – technical specialists of Zaporozhe NPP (Ukraine), Rostov and Smolensk nuclear plants, Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Technological branch - shared their experience with KUNPP employees in the field of the provision of turbine equipment reliable and safe operation.

The participants considered and discussed the prepared presentations and attended Kursk NPP education and training centre, where they got acquainted with the programs of turbine department (TD) personnel training. Then they inspected the equipment of TD Nos. 1 and 2.

“The joint work of the specialists of the nuclear plants with different technical experience allowed study it in the most profound way”, Mission Leader, WANO MC Councilor Sergey Kezin said. “Mutual information exchange, search for technical solutions was of great use for all the participants and was reflected in the recommendations developed for NPPs”.

“The mission theme is aimed at improvement of power saving and efficient use of the equipment”, Head of Kursk NPP turbine islands Nos. 1 and 2 Sergey Ferapontov stated. “We will apply the results of the technical discussion and the mission recommendations to our practical work”.

The participants of WANO technical support at Kursk nuclear plant noted the great use of the involvement of the specialists, directly engaged in NPPs production subdivisions, into the experience exchange.

WANO - the World Association of NPPs’ Operators, i.e. the organizations operating NPPs. Operating organizations of all the operating NPP power units and since recent times of those under construction are the Association members on a voluntary and equal basis. This is a non-commercial, non-governmental organization. It is not a supervisory body.

WANO Mission is to improve NPP reliability and safety at most all over the world, applying joint efforts for estimation, comparison with the best achievements and perfection of operation by means of mutual support, information exchange and positive experience use.

The organization is implementing four basic programs: “Peer Reviews”, “Operational Experience”, “Technical Support and Exchange” (missions of technical support, performance standards, exchange visits, positive practices) and “Professional and Technical Development” (seminars, experts’ working meetings, trainings).

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 3 and 4. The actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No. 2 has been in scheduled major repair since April 22 of the current year.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP industrial site and its location corresponds to the set standards and does not exceed the natural background values.
