The Kursk NPP: the power unit №4 stopped

On July 11, 2014 at 16 hours 49 minutes the power unit №4 was stopped by the automatic protection system at the Kursk NPP.

Reasons for switching on of the automatic system are being investigated. After the elimination of the causes, that led to the shutdown of power unit, it will be put into operation in the prescribed manner.

This event is pre-classified as zero level (out of scale) on the International Nuclear Event Scale for the Assessment INES, so it is not essential for the safety of the plant and personnel.

There are no violations of limits and conditions of safe operation. The radiation background at the Kursk NPP and in the area of its location is at the level that corresponds to the normal operation of power units, and does not exceed the natural background values .

There are power units No. 1, 2  and 4 in work at the moment. They work at the capacity established by the dispatching schedule. On the power unit No. 3 planned repairs have been carried out.
