Russian Federation Presidential Delegate on Child Rights Pavel Astakhov has visited Kursk NPP Rehabilitation Centre for the children and teenagers with disabilities

On May 19, Russian Federation Presidential Delegate on Child Rights Pavel Astakhov visited the rehabilitation centre for the children and teenagers with disabilities of Kursk NPP within the framework of his visit to Kursk region.

The Delegate on Child rights got acquainted with the Centre activity: attended the classes with the pupils, watched the class rooms and the multiple workshops, and met the pupils’ parents.

The essential problems of the people with disabilities were discussed in a vivid dialogue with the centre employees and the members of “Abetment” Parental Club Kurchatov Social organization.

As one of the ways of the problem solution, Pavel Astakhov proposed a more active cooperation of the interested social organizations with the authorities in order to find the solutions to the difficult questions together, realizing the rights of the children and teenagers of the category.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 3 and 4. The actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No. 2 has been in scheduled major repair since April 22 of the current year. The radiation background at Kursk NPP industrial site and its location corresponds to the established standards and does not exceed the natural background values.

The rehabilitation centre for the children and teenagers with disabilities of Kursk NPP has been working in Kurchatov city of Kursk region since 1999. The mission of the Centre is to organize permanently existing conditions for the complex rehabilitation of the persons with disabilities in the status of invalids with psychoneurological pathologies at their places of residence. The main purpose of the Centre’s activity is the maximal possible socialization and the pupils’ social adaptation. The Centre works in accordance with up-to-date native and international standards of rendering help to the children and teenagers with health disabilities. Owing to Rosenergoatom Concern the Centre has the modern material and technical basis and is provided with the necessary rehabilitation equipment and computer devices. In the course of the work of the centre its employees have rendered help to more than 600 children and teenagers, living in Kursk region. More than 400 families have received professional advice.
