Kursk NPP: planned fire-tactical exercises take place on territory of the nuclear power plant on September 24

The Kursk nuclear power plant will held fire-tactical exercises on September 24, 2015 in accordance with the plan of the Main Directorate of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Kursk region.
 
The exercises will involve the forces and means of fire protection garrison of the Kursk region.

During the exercises fire response techniques will be worked out for improving training and support structures.

Carrying out the exercises involves using of fire transport with special light and sound alarms across motor road in direction of Kursk - Kurchatov, Lgov - Kurchatov.

The Kursk power units will work normally during the exercise. There will be no interference in their work related to exercise.

Administration of the Kursk NPP refers to inhabitants of the region with a request to show patience and understanding during the exercises.

Such exercises is an integral part of safe operation of any nuclear power plant. Fire-tactical exercise are held annually at nuclear power plants of the Concern "Rosenergoatom".

The Kursk NPP has power units №№ 1, 2, 3 in work at the moment. They work with capacity, established by the dispatch schedule. The power unit №4 is in planned overhaul.

The radiation background is at level, that corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed natural background values, at the Kursk NPP and in the area of its location.

The Kursk NPP, as part of the «Rosenergoatom Concern», is included into the electricity division of the State Corporation "Rosatom". The station is located 40 km south-west of the city Kursk on the left bank of Seym. The NPP has four operating units with RBMK RBMK-1000 reactors with total capacity of 4 million KW of electricity. Power units were connected to the unified energy system of the country in 1976, 1979, 1983 and 1985. All existing power units had technical modernization in 1994-2009. The Kursk NPP is the largest power generating source in the Central Russian Chernozem.
