Kursk NPP: organizational meeting of Clean Energy press-club was held.

On February 3, 2011 an organizational meeting of Clean Energy, Kursk press-club, was held in Public Information Centre of Kursk NPP. The meeting was the first since the beginning of the year. Journalists of public Mass Media, majoring in nuclear themes, heads of Kursk NPP and members of Public Houses of Kursk region and Kurchatov city took part in the meeting. Also representatives of Leningrad NPP and STV Channel (Sosnovy Bor city, Leningrad region) participated in the work of the press-club.

In the beginning of the meeting Vyacheslav Fedyukin, Kursk NPP Chief Engineer Deputy, informed the journalists about the work of the power units operating at the plant and about the plans for further development of the nuclear power industry of Kursk region.   
 
“We received a report on the close beginning of works on the first power unit of the replacement plant Kursk NPP – 2 construction, - he said, - This will provide good conditions for the further economic and industrial development of the whole Kursk region”. 

Alexander Shiglenko, Chairman of Kursk region Journalists’ Union, President of Clean Energy press-club, stated that in the context of nuclear power industry further development, the cooperation between Kursk NPP and Journalist Union will be stronger.

“Life has proved that there is simply no alternative to nuclear power in our region”, - Alexander P. underlined.

 The participants of the meeting exchanged their opinions concerning the press-club activity in 2011. Thus, in particular, it was decided to cooperate with the Public Houses of Kursk region and those of Kurchatov, the city of atomists, more intensively. According to Nikolay Kiselev, the Secretary of the Public Houses of Kursk region, the organization of joint events and publically significant acts would be a pledge for such cooperation. This idea stirred a vivid interest on the part of the people gathered. Taking into account all the wishes and new proposals, the press-club council confirmed the operating schedule for the current year. 

At the end of the meeting Kursk NPP guests – representatives of Leningrad nuclear plant – described the work of their enterprise and life in Sosnovy Bor, the city of Leningrad atomists. Sergey Averyanov, the head of LNPP Public Information Centre, invited Kursk journalists of Clean Energy press-club to visit the nuclear plant and Sosnovy Bor in summer of the current year, in the context of a travelling press tour.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Their capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. The radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the area of its location corresponds to the normal operation of power units does not exceed the natural background values.
