Kursk NPP: a meeting devoted to the to the 25th anniversary of the accident at Chernobyl NPP has been held

On April 26, 2011 in the city of Kursk atomists Kurchatov the meeting devoted to the 25th anniversary of the accident at Chernobyl NPP was held.

Acting Director of Kursk NPP Alexander Uvakin, Chairman of the City Duma of Kurchatov Igor Korpunkov, the nuclear plant employees, participants of the consequences at CNPP accident elimination, pupils of the city schools and the citizens took part in the meeting.

Appearing at the memory meeting, Alexander Uvakin noted: “Today our grateful memory again returns to those who did not greed their efforts and health at Chernobyl NPP 25 years ago. Ones of the first to come to the colleagues’ rescue were the workers of Kursk nuclear plant: more than 700 Kursk citizens participated in the accident consequences elimination. Since that time much has been done for Russian nuclear plants safety. Now we look into the future with trust, but do not have any right to forget April, 26, and must always remember about it”.

The accident liquidators’ memory was honored by a minute of silence. At the end the meeting participants laid wreaths and flowers to the monument “Cranes”.

On the same day a requiem to the accident liquidators was served in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1 and 3. The actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No. 2 is in scheduled midlife repair. Power unit No.4 is undergoing precommissioning works.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP industrial site and its location corresponds to the set standards and does not exceed the natural background values.
