Kursk NPP: World champion in fencing Christina Samsonova dedicates her win to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern

On April 6, 2012 Kursk NPP honored Christina Samsonova, a pupil of children and youth sports school of the nuclear power plant, who became a winner of the World championship among juniors and youth, held recently in Moscow. Shortly before that, Christina had become a champion of Europe and had been integrated into the national team for participation in the World championship.

Congratulating the young champion, the Director of Kursk NPP Vyacheslav Fedyukin told: “Today we honor our new star, which has risen on the sports sky – Christina Samsonova. Dear Christina, on behalf of the Kursk NPP staff and me personally, I congratulate you with this memorable win at the championship among juniors and youth! You have become one of the number of outstanding athletes of our fencing school, such as Yevgeniya Lamonova, Yana Ruzavina, Yulia Biryukova, Yekaterina Kazhikina and all those, who had won in fencing. Thanks to you the name of Kursk NPP and the city of nuclear experts Kurchatov are famous in the whole world.”

Vyacheslav Alexandrovich also expressed special thanks to Ildar Mavlyutov and Yelena Kazhikina - coachers of the sports girl, and certainty in the future victories of Christina Samsonova at the most prestigious World championships, and wished success to all pupils of Kurchatov fencing school at the forthcoming competitions, and good luck in the sports arena.

Igor Korpunkov, a Head of Kurchatov, and Alexander Balamutov, a Chairman of Kurchatov City Duma, also congratulated the young champion. “Christina Samsonova once again glorified our city, having confirmed its status as the sports capital of the Kursk region,” stressed I. Korpunkov.

In response, Christina said: “This victory at the World championship I dedicate the 20th anniversary of the Concern Rosenergoatom. After all, there wouldn’t be either my victory, or other sports achievements of Kurchatov citizens, if it’s not the Concern, and Kursk nuclear power plant, which support sports in our city, especially, our branch of fencing. I train myself at the outstanding children and junior sports school, which is more than 30 years completely supported by the nuclear power plant. Thanks to this fact, we take part in the most prestigious World championships and achieve such great victories.”

At present time, there are operated the power units No.3 and 4 of Kursk NPP. The units work at a capacity rated by the dispatch schedule. The power unit No.1 is under the scheduled midlife maintenance.  The power unit No.2 is under the scheduled maintenance.

The radiation background in the area of Kursk NPP and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power units’ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
