On March 16, 2012 the inauguration ceremony of newly elected Head of Kurchatov city Igor Korpunkov took place at the Palace of Culture of Kursk nuclear experts.

He was elected to this post at the elections to local authorities, which passed alongside with the RF President elections on 4th of March. Furthermore Igor Vladimirovich became an undisputed leader having gained the avalanche of votes not giving a chance to the rest of other five candidates for the city Head post.

Hundreds of people came to congratulate the newly elected Head: representatives of Kursk Region Administration, Kurchatov city, Kurchatov district, Heads and employees of local enterprises and organizations, and deputies. The festive ceremony on the occasion of inauguration was attended by Chairman of Kursk Regional Duma Viktor Karamyshev, who wished the new Head success on difficult and responsible post, General Inspector of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Nikolay Sorokin, Director of Kursk nuclear power plant, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Vyacheslav Fedyukin.

During the inauguration Nikolay Sorokin read a welcome address of General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Yevgeniy Romanov, who expressed the best wishes of success to Igor Korpunkov in all undertakings aimed at realizing of plans to modify the city, and willingness of the Concern to cooperate closely with administration of the nuclear power plant satellite city.  

On behalf of Kursk NPP staff Vyacheslav Fedyukin congratulated Igor Korpunkov with Kurchatov Head post assumption.
“A new Head is always a new hope, new positive changes in city life, - noted Director. – I’m sure that you will be able to live up to voters’ confidence in you. Avalanche of votes cast to you is both recognition of your merits as Chairman of Kurchatov city Duma and great responsibility”.

Vyacheslav Fedyukin also stressed that electoral program of Igor Korpunkov evokes a feeling of certainty and hope on solving city problems, strengthening of social and economical potential of the city and welfare of its habitants. He wished the newly elected Head success in his responsible state mission, new achievements for the benefit of the Fatherland, and expressed a hope on close and fruitful cooperation with the new city administration in the spirit of strategic partnership and mutual understanding.

When inaugurating the new Head promised to respect and protect the rights and freedom of a human being and a citizen, to follow and defend the RF Constitution and persistently realize all programs aimed at the city development and prosperity of citizens.
At the end of the ceremony deputies of Kurchatov city Duma of the fifth convocation were presented with deputy certificates by the elected on the same day Head of Kurchatov.
 
Kursk NPP operates power units No.1,3 and 4. Their actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No.2 is under scheduled maintenance.

The radiation background at the nuclear plant and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power units’ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
