Kursk NPP: Children’s Creative Project “I Also Will Become Nuclear Engineer”

On June 1, 2012 the Public Information Centre of Kursk NPP within the frame of the children’s creative project “I Also Will Become a Nuclear Engineer” in nomination “I love Kursk NPP and I Present to It My Drawing”, there passed a contest among pupils of all kindergartens of Kurchatov. The project has been held for nine years and is aimed to broaden the knowledge of the youngest Kurchatov citizens about the local economic mainstay, to create confidence in the use of nuclear power in peaceful purposes, and to raise the interest to the profession of a nuclear engineer.



Head of Kurchatov city, Igor Korpunkov opened the event. He congratulated the participants of the contest with the Children’s Day on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Concern, and wished them creative advancement. Among the special guests, there was present Acting Chief Engineer of Kursk nuclear power plant, Nikolai Kompaniets. He told about the attractiveness of the profession of a nuclear engineer, and expressed a hope that the young talents will for sure become worthy to change their fathers and grandfathers.

During the event the children not only enthusiastically painted the pictures with the prospect of the nuclear power plant and the native town, but also visited the exhibition hall of the Public Information Centre, where they had a look at the mockup reactor, viewed the board of the turbine room, main control unit, and central hall. Then with the help of cubes children competing with each others collected pictures of the town and plant. The children coped with the task quickly and confidently. The event outcome was the colorful stand with the children’s drawings at the fountain in the courtyard of PIC, and a solemn awarding of all the event participants. In conclusion, the children friendly released to the sky a bunch of 20 air-balloons in honor of the Concern’s jubilee.
