Kursk NPP has hold a contest on intellectual game What? Where? When?

On March 28, 2012 Kursk NPP hold the seventh open contest on intellectual game What? Where? When? among the employees of Kursk nuclear power plant and organizations under the trade committee service of the enterprise.

Also a team of the South-West State University participated in the game. In general the contest gathered 9 teams. This year the intellectual contests were dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern.

Aims of the game – motivation of intelligence development and broadening of outlook of Kursk NPP employees, strengthening of friendly ties in the group of the enterprise, promotion of the game itself, discovering the most intelligent players and division of the plant.  

The intellectual contest was held on the initiative of the Youth Organization and trade committee of Kursk NPP. The first similar contest was held in 2007 and immediately gained the great popularity.

Opening the game What? Where? When? Gennadiy Polkhov, a Deputy Chairman of the trade committee of the plant, told: “It has become a good tradition to hold such significant intellectual games at Kursk NPP. And this year the game What? Where? When? is dedicated to the significant event for all of us – the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern. I’d like to wish you all good luck, and let the strongest win, as here today the best of the best got together! It’s gratifying that Kursk NPP employs highly intelligent experts, who proudly represent the company at such well-established contests.”

The game was hold in four rounds, each one containing by 13 questions, which touched on almost all spheres of life. The experts had to beat their brains pretty well over the “puzzles” on history, literature, culture and technical disciplines.

During the intense mental battle all the teams showed good erudition, unusual approach to an issue, showed mother wit and intelligence. As a result, the second prize was won by a team The Guest Workers (medical and sanitary unit No.125) leaded by self-perpetuating captain Gennadiy Maltsev, the third prize was won by The Electron (electric shop of Kursk NPP), the captain – a repeated winner of the international contest of Rosenergoatom Concern Mikhail Chagin. But the absolute winner was a team of students from the State South-West University, an educational institution, which was recognized as a reliable supplier of qualified staff for Kursk NPP.

Roman Kuzikov, a show presenter and representative of Kursk club of intellectual games, summing up the results of the contest, noted a high level of the participants’ training and their team play in the contest: “No doubt, today we could observe a team spirit and common touch. One can easily say, even though we have three winners - the friendship has won! This quality and team work always marked the representatives of Kursk NPP, and what important is that such policy – a policy of transparency and corporate solidarity - is carried out at all enterprises of Rosenergoatom Concern, which anniversary is the focus for these games.

A team Zakharovtsi of a secondary school No.5 of Kurchatov won a special prize from the Kurchatov State Duma; similar prize also was awarded to Sergey Mezentsev, a constant participant of all the games What? Where? When?, member of The Cliff team of the thermal automatics and measurements shop.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units No.1,3 and 4. Their actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No.2 is under scheduled maintenance.

The radiation background at the nuclear plant and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power units’ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
