Kursk NPP Ready for Autumn-Winter Period

From October 15 to 19 an inspection committee has been checking Kursk nuclear power plant’s availability for 2012-2013 autumn-winter period.

Experts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, Rostekhnadzor, a team for the technical control of building and facility structures (the Technical Inspection and Industrial Safety Department of Rostov NPP) and Kursk Regional Dispatching Office have checked the availability of engineering services, networks, buildings and facilities of the plant to operate at low temperatures. Additionally, there was checked the implementation of measures aimed at improving the reliability of the electrical machinery and personnel safety during operation.  


In the final inspection certificate, the inspection committee has confirmed the availability of Kursk NPP to operate in 2012-2013 autumn-winter period.

The committee also noted the positive practice of Kursk NPP providing for possible constant redundancy of units’ electric auxiliaries should all of them shut down.

At the present time, Kursk NPP operates the power units No.1, 2, 4. The units work at the capacity rated by the dispatch schedule. Unit 3 is under the scheduled thorough overhaul.

The radiation background in the area of Kursk NPP and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power units’ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
