Kursk NPP Continues Implementation of Project “Rosatom: “Open Dialogue. Training of Speakers”

From November 6 to 9, the Public Information Centre of Kursk NPP held a training within the training project “Rosatom: Open Dialogue. Training of Speakers”. The purpose of this project was the formation of skills of communication of top managers and activists of the State-owned Corporation Rosatom enterprises with various target audiences for the subsequent formation of the positive perception of nuclear energy in the society, including leveling of the existing myths and stereotypes about nuclear energy and radiation.

During the training, simple and typical examples worked out answers to questions on nuclear energy for various target groups of population. Training managers trained Rosatom enterprises’ employees to obtain the correct models of communication in standard and non-standard situations. The basic principles of training were – the practical exercises, analysis of non-standard situations, “theory applied through practice”, positive motivation and wish to develop willingness in people to speak frankly, emotionally and directly. All the lessons were recorded on a video camera to ensure that every person, training participant, was able to look at his colleagues and himself from the side and note the strengths and blind sides.

During the week, Kursk NPP held four classes within the frame of the training, which were attended by 31 speakers – the top and mid-level managers of the nuclear power plant. Similar training has already been held at Kursk NPP in 2010. The project “Rosatom: Open Dialogue. Training of Speakers” has already been functioning in the industry for three years, and for this time trainers of NOU “Centr Praktika” of Nina Zvereva held trainings at 52 enterprises of the nuclear industry.

Leading Trainer of NOU “Centr Praktika”, Alena Zolotukhina, who held classes with Kursk NPP employees, highly appreciated the level of their training:

“I shall be honest with you, for me Kursk nuclear power plant is mostly appreciated,” she said. “Employees of all the nuclear industry enterprises, I should say, differ in erudition, education and high culture of communication, but Kursk NPP employees are, in good sense, special. They are ready and willing to learn, at the same time, they are able to do a lot. Their communication skills deserve no end to praise. This is my second arrival to Kursk NPP; I was traveling here with great pleasure, and again have seen how organic, sociable and hospitable the workers of this enterprise were. The training was attended both by the experienced speakers (this already was the second level for them) and newcomers. And they both have demonstrated the excellent results in the communication with various target audiences, on the whole.”

At the present time, Kursk NPP operates the power units No.1, 2, 4. The units work at the capacity rated by the dispatch schedule. Unit 3 is in the scheduled thorough overhaul.

The radiation background in the area of Kursk NPP and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power units’ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.

On line detailed data on the radiation environment near nuclear power plants in Russia and other nuclear facilities are provided on website russianatom.ru
