On April 18, 2011 the authors of Russian Internet livejournals (bloggers) and Mass Media representatives visited Kursk NPP.

The event was held in the form of a public inspection, in the course of which the participants were able to check safe and reliable work of the largest enterprise of nuclear power in the Central Black Land of Russia. Such inspections are held at all nuclear plants of the country in accordance with the instruction of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in connection with the events at Japanese NPP Fukushima, with the purpose of public control and increase of the citizens’ trust to nuclear power use.

The bloggers and journalists visited the central hall and the block control panel of power units Nos. 1 and 2, turbine hall, the panel of the plant dosimeter control, and other facilities of the NPP industrial site. They attended reserve diesel generators, containers of diesel fuel and pure condensate, the system of the reactor emergency cooling, management and reliable supply complexes.

The enterprise specialists told the inspection participants about the measures taken by the management and the personnel of Kursk Nuclear Plant, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, on further improvement of all the NPP safety systems and the equipment modernization. The bloggers could make sure in the independence, autonomy and high operation speed of all the systems responsible for the plant safety. In the protected control unit on the plant territory, the system of emergency response, and also the precedence rule of the staff and the contingency rescue team in case of emergency were demonstrated to livejournals authors. In the educational and training centre (ETC) the guests got acquainted with the workers’ trainings on special full scale imitators. Here they were witnesses of the personnel training on the emergency situation, modeled with a computer (deenergization of their own needs) work out.

After the inspection was over, a “round table” with the participation of Kursk NPP heads and specialists on the issues of nuclear and radiation safety and environmental protection and the representatives of main technological subdivisions was organized in Public Information Centre. The plant Director Nikolay Sorokin presented to the bloggers a report on safe and stable operation of the plant and also on the main branches of the enterprise work.

The livejournals authors and journalists got the answers to all questions concerning Kursk NPP operation and the prospects of nuclear branch development in the region. The initiator of the bloggers’ visit Sergey Egorushkin underlined the openness of Kursk NPP and gave thanks to the plant management for the acceptance.
