Alexander Karelin visited Kursk NPP

On February 10, 2011 Alexander Karelin, a famous Russian sportsman – triple Olympic classic (Greco-Roman) wrestling champion, a well-known social and politic public figure, visited Kursk NPP.

His visit program included public speaking in Energetic sports complex for sports general public of Kurchatov, the city of atomists, and for Kursk NPP staff at the plant.

Alexander Karelin told them about his life and sports performances, answered all the Kurchatov citizens’ questions and shared his politic views. According to the legendary sportsman, he knows with the nuclear power industry firsthand, because he has worked at Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant that produced nuclear fuel for NPP reactors.

After the meeting with the atomists Alexander Karelin visited the enterprise technologic departments. Vyacheslav Fedyukin, deputy chief engineer of the plant on engineering support organized an excursion to the NPP for the triple Olympic champion.

“The nuclear industry is a leading one in all the respects, - Alexander Karelin noted. – It is very good that Kursk region has its own representative – Kursk NPP – as well”

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Power unit No.1 is in scheduled midlife repair. The actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. The radiation background does not exceed the set standards and corresponds to the natural background values.
