Bilibino atomists have celebrated the 110th anniversary of famous scientist J. A. Bilibin’s birthday

May 19, 2011 was the 110th anniversary of the birthday of the famous scientist – geologist Yury A. Bilibin. Owing to his discoveries in the field of gold mining, nuclear branch began its development in Chukotka.

In order to immortalize the outstanding scientist’s memory, to save and execute the cultural inheritance, and to bring up patriotism among the population, solemn events were held in Bilibino City. Honorable guests – Y. A. Bilibin’s son and grandson – were invited to the jubilee events by Bilibino municipal district Municipal formation administration.

On May 21 a solemn opening of a new bust to Y. A. Bilibin was organized. An evening devoted to the Memory with the participation of the honorable guests, Head of Bilibino district administration, Head of Social Policy Department, representatives of Anuy mining and geologic company and Bilibino NPP administration was held in the city central library.

On May 23, Alexander and Yury Bilibin attended Bilibino NPP. As a part of the excursion, the special guests visited the BCR (block control room), CCR (central control room) and the turbine island. Guide and instructor of the education and training centre Nikolay Musalimov told them about the principal scheme of the nuclear plant operation and the reactor arrangement. The guests were very interested in work of the Chief Engineers of the unit operation.

According to the events organizers, the guests were much satisfied: they were given an opportunity of visiting a nuclear plant located in the Arctic circle, in the district with the most severe climatic conditions, in the permafrost area, and of asking questions concerning nuclear industry in general they had been interested in and receiving exhausting answers to them.
