Bilibino NPP Implements Management System for Occupational Safety and Health

In the period from 18 to 19 April, Bilibino NPP holds diagnostic (assessment) audit of the existing management system of occupational safety and health for compliance with the standard OHSAS 18001:2007 requirements.

The audit is held to find out areas to improve OSHMS in order to bring it into conformity with requirements of the standard OHSAS 18001:2007. By the results of the audit, there will be developed measures and given recommendations on the implementation of the management system for occupational safety and health (hereinafter OSHMS).

To carry out the work on diagnostic (assessment) audit, there is involved a Certification Body the Association for Certification “Russian Register” with the participation of technical experts of the OLS-Komplekt Klinsk Institute for Occupational Safety and health CJSC.

To ensure efficient carrying out of work on development and implementation of OSHMS, the arrived at Bilibino NPP representatives of specialized organizations will carry out the initial training of managers and experts of Bilibino NPP, which will continue working hereafter within OSHMS.

The training involves meetings of work teams with the senior management, managers of departments, experts responsible for internal audit, as well as with specialists responsible for hazard identification and risk assessment.

The developed OSHMS is implemented to further improve the occupational safety and health management system of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, based on the best international experience, providing advantages in competition with other energy supplying companies, promoting investment attraction and confidence of consumers and customers.

In 2011 the certification for compliance with the standard OHSAS 18001:2007 was passed by Balakovo, Smolensk, Rostov and Kalinin nuclear power plants, as well as the headquarters of the Concern.
Bilibino NPP is scheduled to pass the certification audit in August-September 2012.


The radiation background in the area of the nuclear power plant and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power units’ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
