November 7, 2012 – Bilibino NPP held an Awareness Day, which was attended by Leonid Nikolayev, Head of Bilibino district. He met with Bilibino nuclear power plant’s staff.

The main topic of the meeting was the prospects of social and economic development of Bilibino district. Leonid Nikolayev told to the attendees about the serious prospects of the district’s development: discovery of new deposits of precious metals - “Peschanka”, “Kekura” and “Mayskoye”, and on the results of the work – specifically on the completion of construction of the new swimming pool and major repairs of the socially significant facilities such as a school, gymnasium, regional hospital and reconstruction of the cinema “Iskra” in due time. “After putting the swimming pool in commission, there is planned a construction of the year-round indoor ice rink for the training of the hockey team and sport leisure of the city residents!” Leonid Nikolayev shared his immediate plans. “We plan to reconstruct the printing office building to a fitness-centre, and the printing office will be moved to the more modern building, to purchase equipment, and soon there will be opened a shop to produce semi-finished products!”

In addition to opening of new deposits on the territory of Bilibino district, at the moment, there are opening another 3 deposits of gold.

The successful opening of deposits of precious metals and implementation of social projects are impossible without timely decisions on energy supply. Appearance of new energy consumers is essential for Bilibino NPP, and we can already forecast that the demand for electricity will outstrip the supply.

At the meeting, the nuclear industry workers addressed to Leonid Nikolayev with a number of questions regarding the work of healthcare and air travel; the problems like social issues, a work of the housing and public utility sector, prices for the basic food, fuel and mass sports development were discussed in details.

 “Generally speaking, such meetings are important both for the plant employees and representatives of the city Administration,” shared his opinion Alexey Lysov, Chief of the Production and Technical Department. “This is a good opportunity to openly ask and get answers to the accumulated problems!”
