On April 01, 2011 Beloyarsk NPP was visited by delegates of the VI CIO Congress “Ural Gems” – IT managers of companies of the industrial, financial and other sectors, specialists in automation of big and medium businesses.

After the accident in Japan the nuclear scientists initiated a series of expanded tours and “public inspections” at Russian NPPs in order to show the high level of safety systems and reliability of modern Russian power units to the public and mass media representatives.

The VI CIO Congress “Ural Gems” is a unique event for the Ural IT community which annually becomes a major ground for professional communication of IT leaders of the region. 

During the visit the guests examined facilities of the operating BN-600 power unit, in particular, the reactor hall, the turbine island, the unit control room. In the course of the excursion the guests were provided with information about design features of the equipment and its operation at Beloyarsk NPP.

At the dialogical meeting with Beloyarsk NPP administration there were hearings and discussion of information concerning such issues as general characteristic of Beloyarsk NPP in terms of history and production, ensuring safety of facilities and production processes of Beloyarsk NPP for the environment and population, ensuring radiation safety and physical protection, conducting training, maintaining and improvement of Beloyarsk NPP staff qualification, as well as application of the information and communication technologies in the course of the nuclear power plant production activity.

The delegates were interested in different issues: from the system of repair works organization at the power unit to cooperation with universities in the context of personnel training, from specific character of safe equipment operation in sodium loops to the prospects of shutdown units decommissioning, from production process software to ensuring information security. 

The dialogical meeting with Beloyarsk NPP administration aroused keen interest of the inspection participants and continued well over the time limits. 

At the end of the visit the guests gave the following comments: “Thank you so much for openness and intelligibility of explanations. The range of activity is impressive. The safety level is high” (Vice president for control systems of AVS Group maxim Averyanov); “Russia yet has something to be proud of!” (Oleg Bystrov, IT Director of Lori OJSC). Thus, the participants were convinced that safety of the nuclear power industry is up-to-the-mark.
