Beloyarsk NPP: the monthly plan has been fulfilled by 104%

On April 13, 2011 Beloyarsk NPP BN-600 power unit suspended electric power generation in connection with the scheduled activities: fuel reload and the equipment inspection and modernization. The works are supposed to be carried put up to the middle of June.

Before its shutdown, the power unit was operated at nominal level of capacity and generated 178.33 mln kWh, which was 104.8% of the target figure. The utilization factor of maximum capacity in April amounted to 41.28%.

Totally, from January 1 to May 1, 2011 Beloyarsk NPP BN-600 power unit generated 1465.7 mln kWh of electric capacity, being 101.3 of the volume planned.

The radiation background in the area of the nuclear power plant location and in the adjacent territory corresponded to the normal operation of power units and did not exceed the natural background values.

Beloyarsk NPP was put into operation in April, 1964. This is the first NPP in the nuclear power industry of the country and the only one with reactors of different types at the same site. The first power units of Beloyarsk NPP with the AMB-100 and AMB-200 thermal reactors have outlived their usefulness. Beloyarsk NPP operates the unique power unit with a fast neutron reactor of industrial power level - BN-600. The BN-800 power unit with a fast neutron reactor is being constructed. The fast neutron power units serve for substantial extension of the fuel base of the nuclear power industry and minimization of radioactive waste due to the closed nuclear fuel cycle.

Timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is given in the site www.russianatom.ru.
