Beloyarsk NPP: the BN-600 power unit has resumed operation

On June 6, 2011, upon completion of overhaul with modernization of equipment and refueling, the BN-600 power unit of Beloyarks NPP resumed generation of electric power.

The power unit had been shut down on April 13, 2011 in accordance with the annual schedule. During the specified period the repair personnel performed the scope of work required for reliable and safe operation of the BN-600 power unit and stable generation of electric power for Sverdlovsk region consumers.

The radiation background at Beloyarks NPP and in the area of its location, as usual, corresponds to the natural environmental background.

Beloyarsk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC operating all nuclear power plants of Russia. Beloyarsk NPP operates the unique power unit with a fast neutron reactor of industrial power level - BN-600. The BN-800 power unit with a fast neutron reactor is being constructed. The fast neutron power units serve for substantial extension of the fuel base of the nuclear power industry and minimization of radioactive waste due to the closed nuclear fuel cycle. The first power units of Beloyarsk NPP with the AMB-100 and AMB-200 fast neutron reactors have been shut down and are prepared for decommissioning.

Timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
