Beloyarsk NPP: on April 13, BN-600 will be stopped for scheduled repair
On April 13, 2011 power unit BN-600 of the Beloyarsk NPP will be stopped for scheduled repair.
During the halt period power unit BN-600 will have fuel recharging, inspection and equipment modernization. There will also be performed equipment routine maintenance and modernization work under the Program as well as general overhaul of one of the turbogenerators.
All the scheduled works are supposed to be executed within 70 days.
Beloyarsk NPP was put into operation in April of 1964. This is the first NPP in the nuclear power industry of the country and the only one with reactors of different types at the same site. The first power units of Beloyarsk NPP with the AMB-100 and AMB-200 thermal reactors were shut down because they had exhausted their potential. Beloyarsk NPP operates the unique power unit with a fast neutron reactor of industrial power level - BN-600. The BN-800 power unit with a fast neutron reactor is being constructed. The fast neutron power units serve for substantial extension of the fuel base of the nuclear power industry and minimization of radioactive waste due to the closed nuclear fuel cycle.
