Beloyarsk NPP: a holiday for Zarechny children

On June 4, 2011 Beloyarsk NPP and Directorate of Constructed Beloyarsk NPP-2 organized an event dedicated to the Day of Protection of Children for kids of Zarechny city. The event also coincided with the final stage of children’s art contest called “My Beloved Nuclear City”, opened on May 19, 2011.

Over 250 kindergarten children and junior school pupils of the city had taken part in the contest. The pictures reflected positive attitude of the children to their native city and the nuclear power industry: “Zarechny In My Hand”, “My Parents Work At BNPP”, “Atom, BNPP, City And Me”, “Zarechny Is My Native City”, “Dad, Mum And Me are Inhabitants Of The Nuclear City”, “The Beauty of Our Nature Is The Pride of Our City”. The best works were used for decoration of Beloyarsk NPP bus, and on June 4 the young artists painted its windows themselves.

After the show, where the children enjoyed themselves on five different playgrounds, the contest participants went on excursion to Beloyarsk NPP and the 4th power unit (BN-800) construction site by that very nice bus they had decorated on their own.

Later the pictures will be exhibited at Beloyarsk NPP and Beloyarsk NPP-2; they are also going to be placed in city shopwindows.

Beloyarsk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC operating all nuclear power plants of Russia. Beloyarsk NPP operates the unique power unit with a fast neutron reactor of industrial power level - BN-600. The BN-800 power unit with a fast neutron reactor is being constructed. The fast neutron power units serve for substantial extension of the fuel base of the nuclear power industry and minimization of radioactive waste due to the closed nuclear fuel cycle. The first power units of Beloyarsk NPP with the AMB-100 and AMB-200 fast neutron reactors have been shut down and are prepared for decommissioning.

Timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
