Beloyarsk NPP: Meeting of Senior Resident Inspectors of NPPs

November 20-21 – Beloyarsk NPP held a joint retreat of senior resident inspectors of operating nuclear power plants and those under construction of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.

Senior resident inspectors discussed the status and trends of NPPs’ safety and occupational safety in 2012, set the objectives for the coming year, as well as discussed the ways to improve the assessment of workplaces and certification of work on occupational safety. Also, aspects of certification on the environmental management, quality management and occupational health and safety management were the subject for the discussion.

The meeting participants made study tours to Beloyarsk NPP Unit 3 operating with BN-600 model reactor and Unit 4 with BN-800 reactor under construction.

At nuclear power plants, the inspection services effect control and supervision of all NPP’s units in abidance by standards and regulations for all types of safety: industrial, radiation, nuclear, fire, operational, occupational, etc. Also, they carry out analysis of the status and development of proposals for the implementation of the safety culture principle at NPPs, in other words, the qualification and psychological preparedness of the staff, in which safety is a priority and an internal need of every employee, which leads to self-responsibility and self-control in the performance of all work related to safety.

Beloyarsk NPP was commissioned in April 1964. It’s the first nuclear power plant of the largest nuclear power industry of the country and the only one with different operating reactors at the same plant. The first Beloyarsk NPP power units with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 have been stopped due to resource exhaustion. The power unit with BN-600 fast neutron reactor of industrial power level nowadays operates as the unique in the world. The power unit with BN-800 fast neutron reactor is under construction at present. Fast neutron power units are designed to significantly expand the fuel base of the nuclear power engineering and minimize RAW by means of closed NFC management.
