Beloyarsk NPP: Meeting of Chief Engineers of Nuclear Power Plants of Russia

From October 16 to 19 an offsite meeting of chief engineers of nuclear power plants of Russia was held at Beloyarsk NPP under the charge of Deputy General Director – NPP Production and Operation Director of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Alexander Shutikov. It was attended by Inspector General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Sergey Adamchik, Inspector General of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Nikolay Sorokin, Deputy Managing Director of Rostekhnadzor, Vladislav Manakov, representatives of field-specific departments of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and organizations providing operational support to nuclear power plants: VNIIAES (Russian Research Institute for Nuclear Power Plant Operation), Atomtekhenergo, OKB Gidropress (Experimental Design Bureau), National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute”, Atomenergoproyekt, State Scientific Center - Research Institute of Atomic Reactors, and NIAEP.

The meeting was dedicated to production and operation of Rosenergoatom Concern’s nuclear power plants. The following issues were included in the discussion:

- Results of work for 9 months of the current year and targets for the autumn-winter period of 2012-2013;
- Implementation of measures on the nuclear emergency preparedness;
- Increase of effectiveness of plant walkdowns and NPP personnel working area check system;
- Positive practice of spent nuclear fuel management.

Participants of the meeting made the round of operating Unit 3 with BN-600 model reactor and Unit 4 under construction with BN-800 model reactor.

Meeting of chief engineers of nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom Concern are held quarterly. In order to share experience and learn technical and technological achievements of colleagues, meetings are organized at each of the nuclear power plants alternatively.

Beloyarsk NPP was commissioned in April 1964. It’s the first nuclear power plant of the largest nuclear power industry of the country and the only one with different operating reactors at the same plant. The first Beloyarsk NPP power units with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 have been stopped due to resource exhaustion. The power unit with BN-600 fast neutron reactor of industrial power level nowadays operates as the unique in the world. The power unit with BN-800 fast neutron reactor is at present under construction. Fast neutron power units are designed to significantly expand the fuel base of the nuclear power engineering and minimize RAW by means of closed NFC management.
