Beloyarsk NPP: February 5, the capacity of BN-600 will be reduced due to equipment repair

February 5, 2011 from 02:00, according to the claim filed to the power system dispatcher, the power capacity of Beloyarsk NPP power unit BN-600 will be reduced to 380 MW due to power equipment repair.

This event is preliminary classified as a zero level (below - scale) event by the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES) (has no impact on the plant and the personnel safety).

No violations of limits and conditions of safe operation of the power units have been recorded.

The radiation background at Beloyarsk NPP and in the adjacent territory is not changed and does not exceed the natural environmental values.

Beloyarsk NPP was commissioned in April, 1964. This is the first NPP in the nuclear power industry of the country and the only one with reactors of different types at the same site. The first power units of Beloyarsk NPP with the AMB-100 and AMB-200 fast neutron reactors have been shut down and are prepared for decommissioning.  Beloyarsk NPP operates the unique power unit with a fast neutron reactor of industrial power level - BN-600. The BN-800 power unit with a fast neutron reactor is being constructed. The fast neutron power units serve for substantial extension of the fuel base of the nuclear power industry and minimization of radioactive waste due to the closed nuclear fuel cycle.

Timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
