Beloyarsk NPP: BN-600 bares load higher than nominal

The power unit №3 of the Beloyarsk NPP with reactor BN-600 developed more than 457.4 million Kilowatt hours of electricity in August 2015. As of implementation of its annual plan for electricity production to date, the power unit with BN-600 is performing a routine task on the level of 110 percent.

The capacity factor of the power unit №3 amounted to 102.47 percent in August 2015.

Additional megawatts of power are produced by the unit for more than five years since fundamental modernization of equipment was carried out beyond preparation for extension of service life of the power unit.

Completed in 2010, the modernization significantly increased economic characteristics of the power unit, its efficiency and capacity factor. For example, the modern engineering technologies allowed to replace turbine blades on longer ones. As a result, the available electric capacity of the power unit increased from the original 600 to 625 MW.

Note, that generated electric power by the unit №3 of the Beloyarsk NPP has not reached the maximum possible value in connection with selection of some steam from the turbine for heating of Zarechny district (Sverdlovsk region.).

The Beloyarsk nuclear power plant was entered into work in April, 1964. It was the first nuclear power plant in big nuclear power of the country and the only one with reactors of different types on one platform. The first power units of the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant were with reactors on thermal neutrons AMB-100 and AMB-200 and were stopped in connection with resource development. There is the only one power unit in the world with reactor on fast neutrons of an industrial power level BN-600 in work. There is a power unit with reactor on fast neutrons BN-800 being constructed. Power units on fast neutrons are urged to expand significantly fuel base of nuclear power and to minimize radioactive waste at the expense of organization of closed nuclear and fuel cycle.

Updated information about radiation situation near the nuclear power plants in Russia and other objects of the nuclear industry is provided on the web-site www.russianatom.ru.
