Beloyarsk NPP Keeps Occupational Safety and Health under Control

Prior to the World Day for Occupational Safety and Health, which is celebrated on April 28, by the decision of the International Labour Organization, Beloyarsk NPP will hold an inspection package plan for occupational safety and health.

On April 17 the nuclear power plant spent a regular Day for Occupational Safety and Health at the 2nd (unit level) and the 3rd (at the enterprise level in general) levels of inspection. According to the current regulation, as a sign to attract the attention of the staff to those events, at Beloyarsk NPP there was raised a flag “Occupational Safety and Health”.

Also at the current week, the representatives of the certification body All-Russian Research Institute for NPP Operation OJSC (ARINO OJSC) have been holding an inspection check-up at Beloyarsk NPP over the work of certified occupational safety and health, including check-up for the conformity of production factors at workplaces to the results of assessment of workplaces.

A certified system for occupational safety and health is implemented at nuclear power plants of Russia, and regular monitoring over its condition helps to prevent occupational injuries of the workers of the industry.

These large-scale events coincided with the advance visit to Beloyarsk NPP of experts of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) – a future peer review team, in which, in addition to production, there also will be reviewed safe work organization, including the process for the workers’ admission and briefing.

Beloyarsk NPP was commissioned in April 1964. It’s the first nuclear power plant of the largest nuclear power engineering of the country and the only one with different operating reactors at the same plant. The first Beloyarsk NPP power units with the thermal reactors of AMB-100 and AMB-200 have been stopped due to resource exhaustion. The power unit with BN-600 fast neutron reactor of industrial power level nowadays operates as the unique in the world. The power unit with BN-800 fast neutron reactor is at present under construction. The fast neutron power units are designed to significantly expand the fuel base of the nuclear power engineering and minimize RAW by means of closed NFC management.

On line data on the radiation environment near nuclear power plants in Russia and other nuclear facilities are provided on website russianatom.ru
