The Balakovo nuclear power plant has been visited by experts of VAO NPP.

The mission of technical support (MTS) was working at the Balakovo nuclear station of the Moscow and Parisian centers of the World nuclear power plant operators association from August 26 till August 30, 2013.

"Implementation of the ALARA principle during the work in a zone of controlled access and in training"  became a subject of cooperation.

Specialists of the nuclear power plant "Kozloduy" (Bulgaria), the nuclear power plant "Paks" (Hungary), the nuclear power plant "Loviz" (Finland), the Parisian and Moscow the VAO nuclear power plants centers took part in work of mission. Experience exchange in the field of ensuring radiation safety, including practical use of methodology of ALARA and determination of possible ways of radiation protection enhancement  of the nuclear power plant personnel became the experts' purpose of five-day work. The principle of ALARA is an approach to risk management in the radiation safety field which implies its maximum decrease reached at the expense of really available resources.

The main work of mission took place in the educational and training center of the Balakovo nuclear power plant in conference room of which  thematic reports  of all participating stations specialists of mission were heard. Using knowledge and experience of each other, and also results of joint discussions, participants of MTP determined ways of application further enhancement of ALARA methodology during the work in a zone of controlled access and in training.

Within the visit the international experts of the VAO nuclear power plant made a bypass of production premises of the Balakovo nuclear power plant, carried out personnel interviewing, and also visited with excursion the center of public information of station.

Following the results of the mission work of the Moscow and Parisian the VAO nuclear power plants centers recommendations for improvement of application of the principle of ALARA on the Balakovo nuclear power plant were formulated.

The VAO nuclear power plant was based in May, 1989 by the operating organizations for experience exchange. The structure of the VAO nuclear power plant includes four regional centers: Moscow, Atlantsky, Parisian and Tokyo. The coordination center is in London. The Moscow center includes 37 organizations from Armenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Iran, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, the Czech Republic, India and China. The "Rosenergoatom concern" is one of the most active operating organizations in the VAO nuclear power plant structure.
