More than 160 people attended the competition for crews of volunteer fire brigades and division shifts, held on 21 August at the Balakovo NPP.

Competitions are held annually to check the readiness of the nuclear power plant personnel to extinguish fire, as well as increasing psychological stability in a real fire. The organizers of the competition were Department for fire safety of the station, inspectors from Fire and Rescue unit №23.

This year, 28 men and 9 women's teams were exposed to participate in the competitions, representing various departments of the station. For the first time the competition was attended by two teams from the JSC "Consist OS".

Athletes overcame four stages fighting for prizes: extinguishing of large pan with fire extinguisher, overcoming boom and extinguishing of small pan with fire blanket, overcoming fence and supplying water by a jet. In addition, a traditional contest of satirical leaflets on fire-prevention subjects was held.

As judges of the competition noted, the nuclear power plant personnel demonstrated a high degree of readiness for fire fighting and a good knowledge of how to work with fire extinguishing agents. It was also noted that there were no losers in the competition of firefighters. "The main thing is not to win but to participate, because each of you regularly trains on fire-applied sports, so all participants showed a high level of fire training with no doubt," - said, referring to the volunteer fire department, the Chief Judge of the competition - the Deputy Chief Engineer Yuri Svezhintsev.

Summing up competition of volunteer fire brigades, Department of Radiation Safety took first place in the team event among men's teams, second place - soldiers of reactor department №1, the third - ventilation unit. Among women team of electrical unit electrical, winning first place, second position - laboratory workers of chemical shop, third - workers go handling radioactive waste unit. First place in the competition of satirical posters was divided by centralized repair shop and fire safety department.
