Project"Environmentally exemplary water-chemical laboratory of chemical deparmentof the Balakovo NPP" was recognized as the best in the nomination"Ecological Culture Industry and Energy" in International project"Ecological Culture. Peace and harmony ", organized by the CommercialEnvironmental Fond named after V.I. Vernadsky.

Aspart of the winning in the project an extensive program of retrofitting andimproving equipment and technology was implemented in the Balakovo NPP chemicalshop water-chemical laboratory. This greatly reduces direct contact of staffwith chemical reagents and at times reduces the possible impact of harmful andtoxic chemicals on the environment. All this is aimed primarily at theexecution of one of the main priorities of the nuclear power plant -environmental conservation, environmental safety, health and welfare.

TheBalakovo NPP also was awarded a diploma and a commemorative badge "Foractive participation in All-Russian environmental cleanup" Green Spring2014 "initiative and help in carrying out environmental activities, whichhave become an important part of improving the environment of the RussianFederation." Team of the first nuclear power plant in the Saratov regionresponded to the initiative of non-governmental environmental fund named afterVI Vernadsky on the environmental action "Green Spring 2014." Supportedthis initiative also the NPP veterans and students, who came together withnuclear scientists to restore order on the spring streets of Balakovo.

Receivedawards in competitions of such high level became another proof of theindisputable merit of the Balakovo NPP - repeatedly recognized as"Environmental Leader of Russia" - in matters of respect for nature.

TheBalakovo NPP is a branch of JSC "Rosenergoatom Concern" and issituated 8 km from the town of Balakovo, Saratov region on the left bank of theSaratov Reservoir.

Atthe station four power units with pressurized water reactors VVER-1000 withcapacity of 1,000 MW each operates. The Balakovo NPP provides a quarter ofelectricity production in the Volga Federal District and fifth of allgeneration of nuclear power stations in country. It supplies energy for theVolga region (76% of its electricity supplied) Center (13%), the Urals (8%) andSiberia (3%).
