Power unit №3 of the Kalininskaya NPP disconnected from the network

The Kalininskaya NPP power unit №3 was disconnected from the network by an action of the electric generator protection. Reactor installation is working at 10% capacity. The power unit will be connected back to the grid after elimination of the stop causes. There are no violations of limits and conditions of safe operation.

This event is evaluated as «out of scale» according to the International Nuclear Event Scale for the Assessment INES, that is not significant to safety.

The power units №1, №2 and №4 of the Kalininskaya NPP are operating normally. The radiation background corresponds to level of normal operation of power units, which doesn't exceed natural background values.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.

Current information about radiation situation near the nuclear power plants in Russia and other objects of the nuclear industry is provided on a site www.russianatom.ru.
