Kalinin NPP: Visit of Mongolian Delegation

November 8 – Representatives of the Nuclear Energy Agency and Institute of Physics and Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences made an inception visit to Kalinin nuclear power plant.

The main purpose of the visit – acquaintance with the Russian experience in construction and operation of nuclear power plants with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) for further cooperation in peaceful use of atomic energy.

Welcoming the guests, Acting Director of Kalinin plant, Igor Bogomolov, said: “For the first time ever a delegation from Mongolia has visited our plant. I hope you have seen here what you wanted to see, and could define further ways to study the situation in the field of nuclear energy, where we can be useful for you as an organization that has a kind of experience and knowledge. The friendship between our countries and our peoples has long-time history, and we will develop it further, because, as the popular Mongolian proverb says, the wisest of all the sciences is friendship.”



As part of the visit, there was held a meeting of foreign colleagues with the management of Kalinin NPP, where the members of the meeting discussed a broad range of issues related to the nuclear power plant’s construction, NPP’s environmental impact, organization of the radiation survey and implementation of scientific and technical developments. Also the attention was paid to the issues of heat supplying to the city by the resources of NPP.

The guests visited units of the 1st and 2nd phases of Kalinin NPP, personnel training centre of the plant, as well as made a tour to the Public Information Centre of the plant.

At the end of the visit, Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Baatar Chadraa thanked Kalinin NPP management for the reception and said: “Economy of our country considerably develops thanks to the use of mineral resources of Mongolia. Currently, we have a lack of power to process raw materials. Due to this, we are interested in creating of the serious sources of electricity. Russia – is the closest to us country with a large complex of businesses enterprises, which together with NPP make a unique part of the fuel cycle. Kalinin NPP is a huge enterprise. We have long been aware of your plant and we are glad that it has become the first plant, which we have seen.”
 
Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
