Kalinin NPP: MCP idle run in has been accomplished at power unit No. 4 under construction

On May 27, the trial run of the electric motors of each of the four main circulation pumps (MCP) (put into operation for not less than 6 hours) was successfully accomplished at power unit No. 4 of Kalinin NPP under construction. MCPs are the main equipment of reactor compartment and provide the coolant circulation in the NPP first circuit.

The works had been started on May 24 at 11:14 p.m. and for 56 hours main circulation pumps had been run in idle in succession according to the engineering scheme. MCP idle run in is one of the necessary stages before conduction of hydraulic tests and the first circuit circulation washing, scheduled in June of this year.

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated in the north of Tver region in Udomlya district. Kalinin nuclear power plant comprises three operating power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) of 1,000 mW capacity each. Power unit No. 4 is under construction now and is to be commissioned in 2011.
