Kalinin NPP: 2011 Environmental Report Presentation

On October 18 in Udomel, there was held a presentation of Kalinin NPP environmental report for the year 2011 characterizing important areas of the environment-oriented activities of the plant. The report presentation took place as part of the meeting of the Public Chamber Council of the Tver region on the topic “About Strengthening the Role of the Public in Ensuring Environmental Safety in the Tver region”, with the participation of the Legislative Assembly deputies of the Tver region.

Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Tver region, Lidiya Tumanova, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Tver region, Andrey Yepishin, representatives of Volzhsk Interregional Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, Udomel district Public Chamber, local authorities, Kalinin NPP, as well as regional and urban media took part in the meeting.  

Publication of the environmental report in the city located near the nuclear power plant is meant to increase the awareness of the public, environmental organizations, research and social institutes, local authorities and state authorities about the real environmental situation in the region and measures to improve the environmental safety.

“Udomel district is one of the cleanest and environmentally prosperous districts of the Tver region. Not only does Kalinin NPP ensure essential safety measures at a high level, but also it is a leader in the field of the public’s environmental awareness fostering,” said Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Tver region, Andrey Yepishin.  

The joint meeting on the environmental issues is the first meeting of the Public Chamber and regional Legislative Council members. They discussed a question of what public could do together with the legislative power to ensure environmental safety on the territory of Verkhnevolzhiye.

    An Agreement of Cooperation between the Legislative Council of the Tver region and Public Chamber of the Tver region was signed according to the meeting’s outcome. “The mere fact that the agreement has been signed shows that the authority recognizes the existence of the civil society. The agreement confirms the right of the Public Chamber to advance ideas, and the right of the Legislative Council to implement them,” added Lidiya Tumanova.   



Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
