01.04.2024  THE INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATION DEPARTMENT OF NOVOVORONEZH NPP

The personnel of the Novovoronezh NPP shared their experience in carrying out commissioning work with their Chinese colleagues

The exchange of experience between nuclear industry specialists at the international level improves the process of operating nuclear power plants and maximizes their safety and reliability

As part of the mission to support the WANO Moscow Center, experts in the field of nuclear energy shared their experience in conducting commissioning of power units with PWR-1200 with Chinese nuclear scientists at the site of power units No. 7 and 8 of the Tianwan NPP, built according to the Rosatom State Corporation project.

The specialists discussed issues related to the specifics of commissioning and operating the main and auxiliary equipment, as well as the safety systems of the reactor compartment. The expert delegation included representatives of WANO, Atomtekhenergo, Leningrad, Novovoronezh and Belarusian nuclear power plants.

“The accumulated experience of Novovoronezh nuclear scientists, who were the first to go through all the stages of commissioning power units of a similar project, as well as information about the peculiarities of reactor operation in maneuverable modes, will be useful to our colleagues in the future, when they come close to the start-up campaign,” noted the deputy head of the reactor department of the Novovoronezh NPP Pavel Ognerubov. - Events organized by WANO involve not only the transfer of one’s experience, but also the assessment of the work of colleagues and the creative perception of their achievements. I would like to note the high culture of safety and labor protection during construction, installation and commissioning work at the Tianwan NPP site.”

WANO support missions are carried out regularly at all nuclear power plants. This allows nuclear power plants to improve production processes and maximize safety.

For reference:

Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant is a major object of economic cooperation between Russia and China. On March 7, 2019, the Rosatom State Corporation and the China National Nuclear Corporation signed a contract for the design of two power units with PWR-1200. On May 19, 2021, the start of construction of power unit No. 7 was officially announced. On February 28, 2022, the ceremony of pouring the first concrete of power unit No. 8 of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant was held.

WANO - (English WANO, abbr. World Association of Nuclear Operators) is a worldwide association of organizations operating nuclear power plants. All organizations in the world that operate nuclear power plants are members of the HLW. Today there are about 450 power units. Support missions, peer reviews - forms of work of WANO experts with nuclear power plants.

“Russia helps other countries create nuclear energy from scratch and is the No. 1 country in the world in this area. It is a world leader in nuclear technology. With our assistance, nuclear energy is being created in foreign countries practically from scratch, specialists are being trained, and the necessary infrastructure is being developed in accordance with the most stringent environmental standards,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin at the launch ceremony for the construction of the seventh power unit of the Leningrad NPP.
