Foreign students from National Research Nuclear University MEPhI visited Novovoronezh NPP on a technical tour

The visit allowed them to get acquainted with the work of the nuclear power plant, where a line of PWR reactors of various generations is presented

The Novovoronezh NPP was visited by fifteen foreign students from the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Kingdom of Jordan, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who are studying at the Obninsk Institute of Nuclear Energy (IATE NRNU MEPhI) and at the Moscow site of NRNU MEPhI in their sixth and final year in the areas of “Nuclear Reactors, Materials” and “Nuclear Plants: Design, Operation and Engineering.”

The students’ technical tour took place as part of cooperation between the State Corporation Rosatom and NRNU MEPhI on the development of the Resource Centers of the Rosatom State Corporation - NRNU MEPhI. At the moment, four Resource Centers have been created and are successfully operating in the country - in Volgodonsk, Obninsk, Moscow and Novovoronezh. In Novovoronezh, the base of the Resource Center is the Novovoronezh Polytechnic Institute of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in partnership with the Novovoronezh NPP.

Foreign students visited the first nuclear power plant with pressurized water power reactors, where a wide range of PWR-type reactors of various generations is presented. The students were particularly interested in the innovative power units of the Novorossiysk NPP with PWR-1200 generation “3+”. At the moment Rosatom is building similar power units in various countries, being the world leader among supply companies (vendors) in terms of the number of projects under construction.

Guests were able to observe the work of Novovoronezh nuclear workers at the block control center of power unit No. 6, the central control panel, and also get acquainted with the main technological systems and equipment.

At the Training Center, students were told about the multi-stage training of Russian and foreign nuclear scientists. At the Information Center, university graduates were provided with information about key Rosatom projects, the safety of Russian nuclear technologies, their application in various areas of human life, and answered questions from students.

“I visited a nuclear power plant for the first time. It was very interesting and useful. I was impressed by the work that the nuclear plant employees do, the responsibility with which they approach production and safety issues,” said IATE student Kim Thi Thuy (Vietnam).

“Having visited the Novovoronezh NPP, we can say that we were able to imagine ourselves in the role of employees of a nuclear power plant and better understand how different processes at a nuclear power plant work. Nuclear energy is an open industry and has enormous opportunities. I want to develop further in this direction, and I hope I will get a good job,” said IATE student Nishad MD Akib Al (Bangladesh).

“I am very interested in physics and everything connected with it. I was very impressed by my visit to the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant. We saw with our own eyes everything that we studied for a long time and carefully at the institute,” added NRNU MEPhI student Sarah Jihad Fatihi Alavamleh (Jordan).

Novovoronezh NPP named after V.A. Sidorenko is the first nuclear power plant with pressurized water power reactors. She turns 60 on September 30, 2024. During this time, seven power units with PWR were built and put into operation at the Novovoronezh site. For the Voronezh region, NV NPP remains the main source of electricity, supplying electricity to more than 20 large enterprises and 2.5 million residents of the region. Now at the nuclear power plant preparations have begun for the construction of power unit No. 8, which is planned to be built by 2036.

Russia is consistently developing international trade and economic relations, focusing on cooperation with friendly countries. Despite external restrictions, the domestic economy is increasing its export potential, supplying goods, services and raw materials around the world. The implementation of large international projects in the energy sector continues. The Rosatom State Corporation and its enterprises take an active part in this work.

Operational information on the radiation situation next to Russian NPPs and other facilities of the nuclear industry is available on the website www.russianatom.ru.
