22.01.2024  COMMUNIKATIONS DEPARTAMENT OF ROSENERGOATOM

In 2023, about 700 foreign nuclear workers were trained and improved their skills at Russian nuclear power plants

In 2023, about 700 foreign specialists were trained at Russian nuclear power plants (branches of Rosenergoatom, part of the management of the State Corporation Rosatom).

Practical training and internship help them in the future to safely and effectively manage power units of the Russian design PWR-1200, which are currently being built with the support of the Rosatom State Corporation in partner countries.

Since 2018, more than 2,800 specialists from China, Turkey, Egypt, Hungary, Belarus and Bangladesh have completed training programs for positions and/or advanced training programs at all sites. The training took place in a variety of positions: turbine equipment mechanics, reactor equipment mechanics, leading reactor and turbine control engineers, chemists, electricians, specialists in the field of radiation, nuclear and environmental safety, etc., as well as administrative and technical personnel, including deputy chief engineers of nuclear power plants. Experienced Russian specialists with extensive experience in operating and repairing units with pressurized water reactors act as mentors. They helped foreign colleagues understand all the intricacies of the profession in real conditions at operating power units.

“We received fundamental knowledge in many disciplines while studying at a Russian university, and now, interacting with Russian nuclear scientists, we have a unique opportunity to adopt the technologies and experience that they have gained over more than 75 years of development of the Russian nuclear industry,” noted Mahmut Ali Durukan, turbine equipment operator, turbine shop of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC.

Rosatom State Corporation implements an integrated approach to training personnel for its own and foreign projects. Theoretical training and simulator training are carried out on the basis of branches of the Rosatom Technical Academy in Obninsk, St. Petersburg and Novovoronezh, on-the-job training is carried out at reference Russian nuclear power plants with PWR-1200 reactors (Novovoronezh NPP and Leningrad NPP). The organization of training for personnel of foreign nuclear power plants is carried out by a specialized company JSC Rusatom Service (part of the electric power division) Particular attention is paid to the training of operational personnel. Trainees not only work shoulder to shoulder with Russian operational personnel, study the operation of the nuclear plant's technological and safety systems, and participate as trainees, but also learn teamwork. Also, training on a full-scale simulator is mandatory for the personnel of control rooms of foreign nuclear power plants, during which the actions of the personnel under normal operating conditions of the power unit and in hypothetical crisis situations are practiced until they become automatic.

“Our country has all the necessary technical training facilities, highly qualified instructors, educational and methodological base and the ability to conduct training at existing power units. The combination of theory and practice allows us to achieve a high level of competencies of trained personnel. This is confirmed in exams, which our students must pass after training,” noted the Department of Personnel Training.

It is planned that in the new year, 2024, more than 500 more foreign specialists will undergo training and practical training at Russian nuclear power plants.

For reference:

Russia is consistently developing international trade and economic relations, focusing on cooperation with friendly countries. Despite external restrictions, the domestic economy is increasing its export potential, supplying goods, services and raw materials around the world.

Today, the Rosatom State Corporation is the only Russian global technology company, the world leader among supplier companies in terms of the number of nuclear power plants being built. As part of the implementation of the strategy for the development of international business and in accordance with contractual obligations between partner countries, Rosatom not only builds nuclear power plants abroad, but also provides assistance in training personnel for them.

Most of the training of foreign specialists is carried out on the territory of Russia and includes theoretical and practical (simulator) training at the Rosatom Technical Academy, and then internship at the power units of operating nuclear power plants.
