Rosenergoatom began pilot operation of the information system for supporting the operation of nuclear power plants

On February 21, 2023, the NPP operation support information system was put into pilot operation at five plants – Balakovskaya, Beloyarskaya, Kola, Rostov and Smolenskaya.

The operation support information system integrates all vital processes related to the equipment of nuclear power plants and is integrated with other IT systems of Rosenergoatom. It integrates the processes of operational operation, maintenance and repair, engineering support, resource management and documentation. The system makes it possible to collect data on various facilities, provide support for the operation of nuclear power plants using a digital production control system, and makes it possible to optimize production processes.

Almost all operating and maintenance personnel will work in the System, which maintains a database of equipment, conducts round checks, monitors the condition of equipment and makes repairs, makes records of defects and their elimination. Due to the system, they will be able to form annual equipment repair schedules, put workers on work orders, carry out operational and long-term planning, and prepare acts of work performed. In addition to NPP employees, contractors, including specialists from Atomenergoremont, will also work in the System.

“When creating the system, the experience and best practices of all nuclear power plants in the field of operation processes, repair management, resources and documentation were used. It was important for us to get away from the historically isolated existence of the experience and developments of plants and come to common standards and approaches, we managed to combine almost three dozen large production processes in one system,” emphasized Victor Tzaranu, the head of the project office for the implementation of digital solutions in the operation of nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom.

“This project is the key and the largest in the digitalization program of Rosenergoatom. The system is integrated with more than twenty corporate information systems and will employ about 9,000 users. A lot of work has been done, both on the part of the stations and on the part of the performers. Now we have come to the most responsible and important stage of the project - putting the System into pilot operation,” said Oleg Shalnov, director of the department for IT project management and integration of Rosenergoatom.

This System is an important part of our NPP Operation Template, an integrated set of digital platforms, tools and practical experience of the nuclear industry that provides the optimal functioning of processes at nuclear power plants, from the moment a facility is launched to its decommissioning. We plan to introduce it at all Russian plants, and in the future offer it as a new product for foreign nuclear power plants being built by Rosatom under the BOO (Build-Own-Operate) scheme, as well as other complex industrial facilities,” commented the Deputy General Director - Director for Economics and Finance of Rosenergoatom Sergey Migalin.

Based on the results of successful pilot operation, a decision will be made to put the System into commercial operation.
