At the construction site of the Kursk NPP-2, installation of the roof of the turbine building of power unit No. 2 was completed

In the turbine hall of power unit No. 2 of the Kursk NPP-2 under construction, the installation of metal structures for the roofing of the building has been completed. Eight blocks of roof girders with a total weight of 1052 tons are installed in the final position.

“A distinctive feature of our site is that the roof girders are mounted already sheathed with a profiled sheet. This approach significantly reduces crane time and ensures the safety of personnel, since it is safer to cover the structure with a profiled sheet during pre-assembly on the ground than at a height,” said Andrey Osharin, first deputy director for the construction of new units of the Kursk NPP.

The installation of truss forms was performed in several stages. First, they were enlarged into blocks on specially equipped enlargement sites. Then the stage of quality control followed, and the assessment of the compliance of the work performed was carried out. Only after the successful completion of all procedures, installation was carried out in the design position on the columns of the turbine building at a height of 41.9 meters. This scheme of work was repeated during the installation of each of the eight block farms.

The weight of block farms is different from 143 to 182 tons. The installation of the final eighth block truss was the most difficult. The mass of the structure was 182 tons, length - 60 meters, width - 14 meters.

“Installation of truss forms of the roof of the turbine building is one of the most significant at power unit No. 2 and one of the most difficult, because the installation accuracy is up to ten millimeters. The team of specialists of Concern Titan-2 JSC successfully coped with this task. It was possible to reduce the time of work with each new installation. Using the experience of similar work in the turbine hall of power unit No. 1, the builders managed to reduce the assembly time for one block farm from 30 to 24 days. 20 people participated in the installation process - we managed to rationalize human labor,” commented Oleg Shperle, vice president of Atomstroyexport JSC, director of the Kursk NPP-2 construction project.

The next stage of work for the employees of Concern Titan-2 JSC will be the reinforcement and concreting of the upper foundation slab of the turbo generator.

Two overhead cranes out of three with a lifting capacity of 15 tons and 290 tons were also installed in the turbine building.

Energy is the basis for the progressive social and economic development of the country, the supply of industry and citizens. Russia continues to modernize its energy complex, including nuclear power. This work is performed taking into account modern trends in digitalization and the replacement of imported equipment. The share of low-carbon power generation in the Russian energy sector is already about 40%. In the future, taking into account the growth in the share of nuclear generation, it will only grow.

The construction of power unit 1 and 2 of the Kursk NPP-2 is performed as part of the federal project "Design and construction of reference power units of nuclear power plants" of the Inte-grated Program "Development of equipment, technologies and scientific research in the sphere of the use of atomic energy in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024.
